The world has discovered what we already knew - Greater Palm Springs is a dramatic backdrop for fashion, and the energy in the destination allows for creativity.

The fashion world has discovered what savvy travelers have known all along: Greater Palm Springs is the perfect destination for sunshine, dramatic mountain backdrops and true blue skies, unique architecture, accommodations that range from cool and hip to understated and elegant, and a lifestyle unmatched anywhere in the world.

International attention will be on Palm Springs next week when Louis Vuitton debuts its 2016 Cruise Collection at the iconic John Lautner-designed Bob & Dolores Hope Estate in Palm Springs. Inspired by the Palm Springs lifestyle and its architecture, Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director of Women’s Collections Nicolas Ghesquiere will show his latest line to more than 500 international press, VIP guests and A-list celebrities on May 6. The presentation is the highlight of several events planned in Greater Palm Springs during the week. Last year, the Cruise Collection made its runway debut in Monaco.

Greater Palm Springs is also the fashion darling in May magazines around the world. Harper’s Bazaar is featuring the Waldorf Astoria La Quinta Resort & Club in an 11-page spread, and the Saguaro in Palm Springs is the backdrop for a full page photo of rising tennis star Nick Kyrgios in Vogue and named #1 Desert Hotel in the world by the editors at Elle UK.

“The world has discovered what we already knew - Greater Palm Springs is a dramatic backdrop for fashion, and the energy in the destination allows for creativity,” says Susan Stein, fashion editor of Palm Springs Life Magazine and creative director of El Paseo Fashion Week, the annual event that celebrated its 10th anniversary in March.

All cities in Greater Palm Springs are sharing the fashion limelight - from Desert Hot Springs, where UK-based clothing company River Island filmed its summer television and digital campaign at Hotel Lautner, to Indio and the just-completed Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival with its fashion-centric weekends with parties from fashion brands H&M, Lacoste, MAC cosmetics and industry advocate, Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). In Palm Desert, The Body Deli’s exclusive skin care line, Palm Springs Spa Collection was “discovered” by Louis Vuitton executives and, in a collaboration, will be gifted to media and guests attending the Cruise Collection fashion events next week. For the entire destination, the love for Greater Palm Springs design can be seen in the new publication Palm Springs Style, a curated guide to fashion, design and more.

For years, Greater Palm Springs has been friendly to fashion. With iconic department store Saks Fifth Avenue, and boutiques by Gucci, Tiffany, Ralph Lauren and St. John lining the tony El Paseo in Palm Desert to a vast selection of international brands for outlet shopping at the Desert Hills Premium Mall in Cabazon.

Fashion comes full circle: in the late 1960’s, Emilio Pucci debuted two collections at the Richard Neutra-designed Kaufmann House, then owned by Joseph and Nelda Linsk. Nelda is also the one famously-pictured in Slim Aaron’s legendary “Poolside Gossip.” Now, 50 years later, Louis Vuitton debuts a collection at The Bob & Dolores Hope Estate, demonstrating yet again that great architecture and high fashion meet in Palm Springs.
