Oaks Christian Online High School Juniors Accepted to International Internship
Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) May 03, 2015 -- Oaks Christian Online High School juniors and twins, Madison and Makena Frink, have just been accepted to work with Discovery Internships in the culinary and restaurant management business this summer. The sisters will be interning at two local, London restaurants and staying at a dormitory with other internship students from throughout Europe. The application process was rigorous and consisted of submitting their current grades, applications and recommendation letters from their AP English Online Language course teacher and College Counselor. Both students are anxious about the opportunity to live on their own, see London and participate in day trips to other parts of the UK and perhaps Paris. Madison says, “We’re a little nervous about travelling on our own, but there are advisors there to help, and it should be a great adventure.”
The real motivation for travelling in the summer after their junior year, though, is that the girls have learned the value of summer experiences for the college application process. Their brother worked in a hospital the summer after his junior year, and is now in a Biology program at Washington University in St. Louis. The girls’ father, John Frink – a writer for the Simpson’s television show – also encouraged and supported experiential education in their junior year. Madison and Makena hope to be business majors and attend schools such as Vanderbilt or Duke. They participate in many after school activities such as Beach Volleyball leagues and volunteer volleyball coaching at a local elementary school to round out their busy, college-preparatory lives, but this internship directly relates to the kind of work they would like to be doing after college. Although they were strong students before beginning with Oaks Christian Online High School, both students say they believe that working online has actually increased their college admissions options. “We have taken more rigorous high school courses online and have shown we can work completely independently. With on campus science labs and regular college trips and tours, we rarely miss the social aspects of traditional school. We’re excited about our upcoming London trip and how it will enhance what we’ve already been doing for our college options next year.”
