Pariveda’s summer interns provide app supporting Houston’s iconic symbol of childhood learning through discovery

Pariveda Solutions, a leading management consulting firm, is pleased to announce the “MoreCMH” app for the Children’s Museum of Houston is live. The app is available for download in the iTunes Store and Google Play.

Pariveda partnered with CMH this past summer to develop an app, leveraging the skills of our summer interns. Each year Pariveda offers an eleven week internship program for a small, selective group of exceptional college students to experience a taste of work-life as a software consultant. Pariveda’s 2014 Houston Intern Program was dedicated to partnering with CMH, continuing in the tradition of creating interesting work and challenges while giving back to the community through philanthropy. Pariveda’s program included interns from top-tier universities including: Baylor, Brigham Young University, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, University of Houston, University of Iowa, and University of Texas.

Pariveda interns participated in the app-development project called “Extending and Customizing Learning (ExCL).” ExCL was funded through an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant. Pariveda and its interns proudly celebrate the launch of the “MoreCMH” app with the Children’s Museum of Houston, the citizens of Houston, and museum visitors.

The cross platform mobile app is designed to give parents a tool to engage their child in learning through discovery while exploring the museum with hands-on, minds-on activities and learn about science, technology, engineering, and math. The app categorizes the exhibits based on theme, age, educational information, links to other educational sources, and suggests at-home activities which will continue to stimulate the minds of children even after they’ve left the museum. The app allows the user to participate in experiments, learn through investigation, and share their experiences via social media.

The Museum app will be replicated for four ExCL partner museums this summer/fall and prototyped at their sites. Those museums are: Museum of Life + Science (Durham, N.C.), Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (Portland), New York Hall of Science (Queens, N.Y.), and Sciencenter (Ithaca, N.Y.). Helping through development is Lawrence Hall of Science (Berkeley, Calif).

“Delivering of the ‘MoreCMH’ app through our internship project embodies our mantra of learn, coach and give,” said Sean McCall, Office Managing Vice President of the Houston office. “We seek to partner with organizations whose mission and vision align with our own. We are attracted to projects which expose our interns to new and challenging technologies. CMH and the ExCL project have been perfect in this respect – CMH's mission of ‘transforming communities through innovative, child-centered learning’ is very much in line with Pariveda's mission of growing its employees, often from college graduates to executives. The ‘MoreCMH’ mobile app has provided a technically challenging experience for the Pariveda interns to learn, grow, and thrive in.”

“The Children’s Museum of Houston ‘MoreCMH’ app will allow our visitors to experience the Museum in a whole new way. It will enhance our onsite exhibit interactivity and will encourage learning to be extended home,” said Museum Executive Director Tammie Kahn.
