NCAA Photographer Dustin Satloff Wins 2015 Warren J. Finegan Award
Waterville, ME (PRWEB) May 03, 2015 -- Dustin Satloff, a Colby College senior and professional sports photographer, was awarded the Warren J. Fingan Award by Colby College at the school’s athletic awards banquet, held on its campus in Waterville, ME on April 30, 2015. Presented by Colby College Sports Information Director, William Sodoma, The Warren J. Finegan Award is given to a senior for significant behind-the-scenes contributions to the success of Colby athletics.
Said Mr. Sodoma of Satloff’s award, “Dustin’s images capture the essence of college sports with an emotion and drama that we have not seen before. Since his freshman year, we knew that Dustin had more than an just eye for covering sports; his knowledge of each sport helps him anticipate each play and bring out each decisive moment’s elation or dejection. He was actually hired even before he came to campus, and our early hopes for his success have come true; Dustin pioneered many sports photography techniques here at Colby, including bolting a camera to the rafters of [Colby’s] Alfond Arena, for incredible bird’s-eye images, hockey goal net-cameras, for amazing on-ice perspectives, and a series or wireless, remotely triggered cameras, that Dustin controls while moving all over the field or arena. It’s really amazing to see.”
As one of the NCAA’s most decorated student photographers, regularly winning the New England Small College Athletic Conference’s (NESCAC’s) photo of the week as well as other accolades, Satloff was commended for his versatility, covering sports in all seasons and conditions, and for publishing images for both NCAA division I and division III sports.
Dustin Satloff’s work has appeared in newspapers across the country and online. In addition to NCAA sports, Satloff has covered events held by Major League Baseball (MLB) and The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA), and has been carried by the Associated Press (AP). Satloff was born and raised in New York City and plans on pursuing sports photography professionally after graduation.
