Numerous Virginia Localities Will Utilize ES&S Voting Technology

These jurisdictions have selected an intuitive voting system, allowing for easy implementation and providing both voters and election administrators a platform that can be sustained for years to come.

Election Systems & Software (ES&S), the world’s largest elections-only company, announced increased activity in Virginia on Monday. The City of Richmond and Henrico County, Va. have announced plans to go forward with ES&S voting equipment. York, Wythe and Clarke Counties as well as the City of Fredericksburg also announced plans to move forward with ES&S for their upcoming November elections. These localities join a number of others in the Commonwealth, including Virginia’s most populous county, Fairfax, in implementing the DS200® and ExpressVote®. ES&S and PrintElect Inc.’s reputation for quality election support and voting technology factored heavily into the final decisions to purchase.

ES&S and its partner in Virginia, PrintElect, will replace these jurisdictions’ current machines with a secure paper-based scanning and tabulation system. The DS200 in-precinct vote scanner securely tabulates votes, capturing a digital image that can be used for canvassing and adjudication post Election Day. The ExpressVote Universal Voting System will be used as an ADA-compliant device allowing voters with special needs to make vote selections privately and autonomously, producing a paper record upon completion. This voting solution is powered by Electionware®, the election industry’s most powerful election management software.

North Carolina-based PrintElect will also provide the localities training, project management, Election Day support and equipment maintenance. “PrintElect is proud to have been the sales and service provider of ES&S equipment in the Commonwealth since 2003,” remarked PrintElect President Owen Andrews. “We look forward to working more with these jurisdictions as they prepare for their 2015 election cycle.” Together, ES&S and PrintElect have provided quality election services and support to Virginia jurisdictions for over 35 years. “ES&S is honored with this opportunity to strengthen our commitment to improving elections in the Commonwealth,” added Mac Besson, Regional Sales Manager for ES&S. “These jurisdictions have selected an intuitive voting system, allowing for easy implementation and providing both voters and election administrators a platform that can be sustained for years to come.”

ES&S voting systems will be used in Fauquier and Henrico Counties as well as the Cities of Richmond and Virginia Beach during their June 2015 elections. Carroll, Goochland, York, Wythe and Clarke Counties will utilize the equipment during their November 2015 elections, as will the City of Fredericksburg. This equipment is part of the federally certified EVS election management solution.
