Mike Pence, has declared August 15, 2015, as Model Aviation Day. The AMA Foundation will host a Family Fest and aviation themed Motorcycle Rally in Muncie, IN in celebration. National Model Aviation Day has been established by the Academy of Model Aeronautics—the country’s foremost organization for model aviation—to celebrate the history of model aviation and to promote the hobby on a national scale. A celebration will be held at its national headquarters in Muncie IN, along with AMA chartered clubs across the country.
Each of the participating clubs will promote model aviation and the many benefits of participating in the hobby. This nationwide event will also serve as a fundraiser to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. This organization aims to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
AMA expects approximately 250 clubs to participate and host local events. A participant map and information on specific events can be found at http://www.nationalmodelaviationday.org.
The celebration at the national headquarters in Muncie, IN will feature free airplane rides from a local EAA Young Eagles chapter for kids 8-17, model aviation air shows and displays from local modelers and the Hoosier Dawn Patrol, free admission to the National Model Aviation Museum, a children’s area with several activities, military displays, and an aviation-themed Motorcycle Rally. Preregistration for many of the activities is encouraged. To learn more about the event visit nmadmuncie.org.
