2015 Faraday Awards Presented by PReP Intl and Access Intelligence at ELECTRIC POWER Conference & Expo
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) May 06, 2015 -- Prequalified Ready Employees for Power International (PReP Intl) announced the winners of the 2nd annual Faraday Awards at the 17th Annual ELECTRIC POWER Conference & Exhibition produced by Access Intelligence on April 21, 2015 in Rosemont, Illinois. The Awards are part of ELECTRIC POWER’s initiative Veterans in Power (VIP), which recognizes outstanding efforts and collaboration in the electric power sector to recruit, onboard, retain and mentor veterans who are returning to civilian careers after serving their country in the armed forces.
The 2015 Faraday Award recipients were:
• Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) for the PowerPathwaysTM program – an outstanding example of an investor-owned utility creating and sustaining a successful training program for all employees with a special focus on veterans.
• Lone Star College - Office for Workforce Education (LSC-OWE), the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and Patterson-UTI Drilling Company LLC – an outstanding example of a public establishment, member group and private company partnership program that screens, prepares, trains and onboards returning veterans for careers in the Oil and Gas Drilling Industry.
“Connecting our hard-working veterans to the power industry is crucial to the future of our industry, so we’re looking forward to celebrating the winners success stories,” said Jamie Reesby, ELECTRIC POWER Show Director.
“The power industry is doing the right thing by looking to veterans for outstanding employees,” says Matt Sadinsky, CEO of PReP Intl. “Not only do many veterans possess skills that are readily transferrable to the power industry, but most also have a strong sense of mission, which is critical not only to the military but to the power industry. Veterans in Power and the Faraday Awards are meant to recognize those organizations across the power sector who collaborate to recruit, onboard, retain and mentor veterans as a valued part of their workforce.”
PG&E’s PowerPathwaysTM program has a long track record of success and was recently recognized by the White House for providing world-class training and development for veterans. This is only one part of the company’s overall Military Workforce Development program whose goal it is to engage veterans and give them the tools to have successful careers at the company. PG&E has established successful partnerships with eleven community colleges throughout the areas the company serves in California. They are strong supporters of community organizations including Swords to Plowshares, Hire our Heroes, Hire America’s Heroes and Sentinels of Freedom. Since 2008, the program has trained and placed 340 veterans into utilities, with an additional 320 veterans engaged in other aspects. The program is widely recognized as one of the best utility hiring programs in the country, with collaboration from military veterans, the public workforce development system and various unions. Early in April, Vice President Joe Biden praised PG&E for program saying “this is one of the premier programs in the country.”
The collaborative effort between Lone Star College (LSC) and the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) provides meaningful careers to veterans and needed talent for mission critical jobs across the world where safety and security are paramount. Since April 2012, this program at LSC with the sponsorship of the IADC has enjoyed a 92% placement rate for over 150 participants. LSC would also like to recognize the particular leadership provided by Patterson-UTI Drilling Company LLC for their innovative approach in bringing speed and focus to the engagement of Veterans.
