Attleboro Public Schools Provides Massachusetts Legislators with a Healthy School Breakfast
Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 04, 2015 -- On Thursday April 30th, Massachusetts Action for Healthy Kids held its 2015 Legislative Breakfast in the Nurses’ Hall at the State House. As a leader in healthy school meals, Attleboro Public Schools was honored to provide a healthy breakfast to legislators, community partners and experts in children’s health and wellness. This event emphasized the important role of nutrition and physical education in supporting academic achievement in schools across the commonwealth.
The legislative breakfast featured several speakers including State Representative Jeffrey Sanchez, Kristin Morello, president of School Nutrition Association of Massachusetts, Robert Leshin, Assistant Director, MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Office of Nutrition, Health and Safety Programs. Each speaker reinforced the important connection between student health and success in the classroom. This year, the focus was on school wellness.
At the State House, Attleboro’s School Lunch program, operated by Whitsons School Nutrition, offered legislators a “Spring Fever” spread of breakfast choices found in Attleboro schools every day including, fresh fruit, whole-grain muffins, yogurt parfaits, orange juice, hard boiled eggs, tangerines and granola bites.
Food Service Director and Registered Dietitian, Heather Brunette, wants parents to feel good about the breakfast provided in Attleboro Schools. Brunettes’ goal is to increase accessibility of breakfast. “Our breakfast program gives all students the opportunity to start the day with a nutritious meal and gets them ready to learn,” said Brunette. “We want to offer parents the convenient option of saving time in the morning at home by letting us take care of serving breakfast at school.”
