After quickly surpassing its initial $78,000 funding goal in less than a week from its Kickstarter launch, Silicon Valley-based startup uSens is facing the final hours of its crowdfunding campaign for the upcoming all-in-one wireless virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) product, Impression Pi, ending tonight at 11:58 p.m. PST. With more than 480 backers, the cutting-edge product has already generated a total of more than $260,000 in pledges. Impression Pi is planned for release to Kickstarter backers during the 2015 holiday season.
Combining modern style and advanced motion sensing technology, Impression Pi is a unique product that combines VR and AR in a compact, consumer-friendly package. The product offers full 3D gesture recognition and motion sensing with a completely wireless setup. This unique product has been in development for more than two years by a veteran team of researchers with more than 20 years of combined experience in 3D user interface development, VR, AR and advanced sensor tech.
“With Impression Pi, our team is dedicated to bringing a fully immersive and powerful virtual reality experience to all users – not just hardcore video game players,” said uSens CEO and co-founder Anli He. “We are excited to deliver to our backers a truly unique product with Impression Pi’s modern wireless design and advanced human-computer interaction (HCI) features, and we are humbled by your incredible support. Thank you!”
As a result of the successful campaign, users can expect the following features from Impression Pi:
- Full wireless capability
- Six-degrees-of-freedom head tracking
- 3D gesture recognition for highly interactive VR/AR experience
- Immersive 3D augmented reality
- Unique “Pi 3D” user interface for virtual reality
Hundreds of Impression Pi backers have pledged at multiple levels, including the starter pack, which offers a basic mobile headset; the core package, which includes the core computer vision control module that can be used with other mobile VR headsets; the empower package, which will turn a user’s smartphone into a full-featured interactive VR/AR headset; and the master package which has everything built-in. Impression Pi will also offer a free SDK that is included in the developer’s package, which includes entry into the Pi Developers Program to receive full development support from the uSens team and early access to prototype hardware before public release.
