River and coastal cruise specialist Orbital Travel launches Douro River Cruises
(PRWEB UK) 6 May 2015 -- River and coastal cruise specialist, Orbital Travel, has added a river cruise on the Douro to its cruise programme. Cruises are on board three 4* ships, including the brand new MS Gil Eanes launched in April 2015.
The Douro is one of the major rivers of the Iberian Peninsula linking Spain and Portugal along a stretch of beautiful countryside. From Portugal’s second city of Porto on the north-west coast, the scenic river Douro extends inland through vineyards of grapes for Port wine and travels upstream through steep gorges almost to the Spanish border.
The course of the river winds through the beautiful Douro valley, famous for its Alto Douro Wine Region, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Wine has been produced by traditional landholders in the Alto Douro region for over 2,000 years and since the 18th century, its main product, Port wine, has been world famous for its quality.
Orbital Travel offers a 7 night All Inclusive cruise which explores the best of this region, sailing through picture-postcard hillside villages and vineyard terraces and visiting the city of Porto, the Porto wine region and the beautiful city of Salamanca in Spain. The brand new 4*+ MS Gil Eanes was launched in April 2015 and joins another three river vessels that already sail on Portugal's Douro River. The Gil Eanes is slightly larger than existing ships (MS Infante Don Henrique, MS Vasco de Gama and MS Fernao de Magalhaes) with slightly fewer and more spacious cabins. The ship offers guests a tranquil atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy the picturesque panoramas of the region.
