Destination Imagination & First Book Gift Knoxville 40,000 Books
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (PRWEB) May 08, 2015 -- May 7, 2015 – Two educational nonprofit organizations, Destination Imagination (DI) and First Book, have announced an official partnership to support East Tennessee educators and program leaders serving children in need. The partnership efforts will come to fruition during DI’s Global Finals 2015 starting May 20 and will aim to donate more than 40,000 brand new books to educators and program leaders in the greater Knoxville area.
“Our programs teach kids a number of valuable skills for the future, but for many the fundamentals of learning simply are not available. By partnering with First Book, we aim to eliminate the lack of resources by putting more books in the hands of children in need,” said Dr. Chuck Cadle, CEO of Destination Imagination, Inc. “We are honored to work alongside First Book in an effort to extend educational opportunities throughout the greater Knoxville area.”
The books are complimentary and will be available to area educators and program leaders serving children from low-income families. Individuals must first sign up with First Book, which is a free process. The books will be available for pick-up for qualified educators and program leaders on Saturday, May 23, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Global Finals participants and volunteers will have the opportunity to create unique bookmarks to be donated along with the more than 40,000 books, and will sort and organize books from May 20-22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Innovation Expo.
“First Book is thrilled to partner with Destination Imagination to support the Knoxville community with thousands of free books," said Kyle Zimmer, president and CEO of First Book. “We invite all educators working in the lives of kids in need to join us at Global Finals and get new books for their school or program. Together we can elevate the quality of education for children in need by expanding access to books and other critical educational materials.”
First Book, a national nonprofit social enterprise that provides access to high-quality, low-cost and complimentary books for programs and schools who serve children in need, works with nonprofit, corporate and publishing partners to deliver millions of books to more than 175,000 classrooms and educational programs in North America.
