Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 08, 2015 -- The Front Range Equestrian High School Team (FRET) bested 21 teams to win the National Interscholastic Association’s (IEA) High School Championship on Sunday, April 26, 2015 in Wellington, Florida.
Coaches Tracye Ferguson and Shaun Clark (http://www.coloradoequestrian.com) selected riders Allison Zimmerman, Caroline Molther, Molly Hoskins, Kylie Blair, Jordan Eckstadt and Lilian Schaefer to anchor this formidable team.
The team traveled to the National championship in Wellington after beating 12 teams from Colorado, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico to win the Zone 8 High School Championship. Nationally, 641 High School teams from 42 states started the competition year, all in hope of taking home this prestigious National Championship.
Teams earn points by competing in seven categories based on an individual’s competition level. Allison Zimmerman competed in the Varsity Open Over Fences; Caroline Molther in the Varsity Open Flat; Molly Hoskins in the Varsity Intermediate Over Fences; Kylie Blair in the Varsity Intermediate Flat; Jordan Eckstadt in the Junior Varsity Over Fences and Flat and Lilian Schaffer in the Junior Varsity Beginner Flat. The team won with a total of 23 points with the second place team earning 19 points.
The unique format of the IEA competition requires riders to compete in unfamiliar tack on unfamiliar mounts vs. riding their own horses using their own familiar equipment. Contenders draw their horses on the day of the competition and enter the arena after a brief warm-up or no warm-up at all.
FRET was founded in 20134 by Coaches Ferguson and Clark. The 25-member team quickly climbed the IEA competition ladder. The team is based out of two Denver area competition stables; Meridian Riding Club, owned by Coach Tracye Ferguson and Colorado Equestrian, owned by Coach Shaun Clark. Riders from High Schools across the Denver Metro area comprise FRET’s team.
The IEA was formed in 2002 to promote the quality of equestrian competition available to Middle and High School students and allows these students to letter in the sport with their school. Information on the IEA can be found at: http://www.rideiea.org.
