AccuQuilt Announces Winners of 2015 Quilt Block Design Contest
Omaha, NE (PRWEB) May 07, 2015 -- Three quilters got a big surprise this week when AccuQuilt announced the winners of their 2015 Quilt Block Design Contest. Sherry Rose of Cave Creek, AZ, was the grand prizewinner while Heidi Fry of Green River, WY, came in second place. The fan’s choice winner was Lee McCoy from Stanton, KY.
Rose’s winning design, Rainbow Twinkle, combines bright colors with checkered black and white squares. Along with having her quilt block design displayed on a 17-foot sign outside of AccuQuilt headquarters in Omaha, Neb., Rose will also receive a $1,000 shopping spree at AccuQuilt, 270 spools of Aurifil thread, a feature in Quiltmaker Magazine, and P&B Textiles, Robert Kaufman, Island Batik, and Andover fabric. In addition, Rose will get a round trip ticket for two to Omaha and hotel accommodations for three nights, so she can attend the unveiling of her design on the 17-foot sign at AccuQuilt and the Let’s GO! Quilt Retreat at Country Traditions quilt shop in Fremont, Nebraska.
Fry’s design, Abby Burst, is another colorful design using classic shapes. Her gift package includes a $750 shopping spree, a 5-foot sign, which will be displayed inside of AccuQuilt’s offices, 10 DVDs from The Quilt Show Series, and two retreat passes to the Let’s GO! Quilt Retreat at Country Traditions.
McCoy also chose classic shapes for her design. Her prize package includes a pass to Handi Quilter’s Academy, a round trip ticket to Utah and hotel accommodations, 12 large spools of Aurifil thread, and fabric from Island Batik.
Seven other quilters received honorable mentions for their quilt block designs. AccuQuilt received many entries for the contest, so narrowing down the winners was challenging. However, with the assistance of quilting icons and guest judges Eleanor Burns, Alex Anderson, Ricky Tims, and Edyta Sitar, they were able to pick the top ten designs and eventually the winners.
“It was so exciting to see all the fantastic designs from these amazing quilters, and it was definitely a challenge to choose a winner,” said Steve Nabity, AccuQuilt Chief Energizing Officer.
Grand prizewinner, Rose, will be publicly acknowledged on June 4 at AccuQuilt during the Quilt Block Unveiling Event with special guest, designer Edyta Sitar.
