Georgia Chiropractic Association Celebrates Correct Posture Month!
(PRWEB) May 08, 2015 -- Celebrate National Correct Posture Month By Sitting Up Straight!
Correct posture helps prevent muscle strains and stress on ligaments, allows muscles to work efficiently and keeps bones and joints in correct alignment.
Proper sitting is just as important as proper standing for correct posture.
Georgia Chiropractic Association Member Linda Denham, D.C., of Cartersville recommends the following tips for the best way to sit to improve posture:
• Sit with feet flat on the floor; use a foot rest if the feet do not reach the ground
• Do not cross feet at ankles with one foot rolled to the side
• Sit firmly against the back of your chair with your lower back supported
• Avoid sitting in one place for too long
• Don’t sit on your foot
She also recommended against using certain pieces of furniture.
“The body has less strain if the weight of the head is centered over your body,” she explained. “Sitting in a recliner that pushes your head forward causes stress not only in your neck, but it reverses the lumbar curve.”
Other sitting activities that could cause problems include working at a work surface that is too high or too low or using a stool without supporting the feet.
