Pine Grove Recognizes May 2015’s National Mental Health Awareness Month
Hattiesburg, MS (PRWEB) May 11, 2015 -- This year, Mental Health America is stressing the importance of early detection and intervention. The theme for 2015 is B4Stage4, meaning to spread awareness about the importance of taking action prior to a condition reaching stage four.
Pine Grove is embracing this theme by educating professionals about current addiction news. One particular mental health issue that is receiving both local and national attention is the growing use of the synthetic cannabinoid drug named Spice. On Wednesday, May 20th from 11:30-1:00 PM at Southern Oaks in Hattiesburg, two of Pine Grove’s noted experts, Issac Boose, Director of Pine Grove’s Next Step treatment program for men, and Vanessa Cox, Clinical Director of Next Step are co-presenting “Bath Salts, Molly and Spice: The Danger of Synthetic Drug Use.” Cox said this is a critically important subject because, “Synthetic drugs are invading our cities and communities in epidemic proportions as evidenced by more than 430 patients treated in emergency rooms across Mississippi in the last month.”
This is a presentation specifically for social workers, psychologists, professional counselors, mental health therapists, and students in these fields who are seeking to expand their education when it comes to identifying these harmful drugs. Issac Boose explained this presentation is particularly relevant for those working in the mental health care field today. He said, “In order to provide basic care and assistance to their patients, professionals are suddenly being pressed to learn as much as they can about synthetic drugs as quickly as possible.” Pine Grove offers many professional, continuing education events throughout the year both locally and nationally because sharing the organization’s expertise, as one of the country’s foremost behavioral health care facilities, is important to advancing the addiction treatment field.
