The Stinson Ranch, one of Village Realty’s premier vacation properties, has been owned by the Stinsons, a Greenville, NC, family since 1963. This historic cottage, built in 1899, was the backdrop for almost 50 years of joyful Stinson family vacations and holidays, rich with their traditions and priceless memories. The changing of the tides that stroked the pilings under the treasured home, also saw Billy and Sandra Stinson fall in love, then carry on to watch their two daughters grow into women who will always cherish their childhood days spent there. When discussing the property, Sandra Stinson mused, “Being over the water is a very special and unique experience. It’s like you can’t carry your troubles out there; they are almost magically left on shore. In the past, many lives were changed at the old cottage; marriages were healed, romances begun and the words of life and love were recorded in every media imaginable. The cottage still has the quality to change lives; its legacy is one of a kind.”
Sadly, in 2011 the original cottage succumbed to Hurricane Irene, leaving only a set of steps rising out of the water. As the family sat on those marooned steps and watched the sunset over the water, they vowed to bring their beloved vacation home back. Thanks to the love of the Stinsons and their community, overseeing various fundraising endeavors, including Friends of the Cottage (http://www.friendsofthecottage.com), the home was successfully resurrected in 2014. Now a part of Village Realty’s exceptional vacation rental program, the magic of an escape to The Stinson Ranch is available to all. Sandra Stinson proudly declares, “The Stinson family opens their cottage and their hearts to everyone because they believe in the special uniqueness of this place. It’s an experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The original Stinson Ranch was over a century old, but the new one has just begun its story. You can be a part of that story.”
The recently reconstructed Stinson Ranch, is now an upgraded and beautifully modernized replica of the original, while still preserving the spirit of its predecessor. Though it has now been completely updated with modern amenities, the Stinson’s made sure to uphold its charm and historical integrity, by using salvaged materials from the original structure built by the Markham family more than 100 years ago.
“So much of the original ranch is embodied in the new; the cabinets in the kitchen are made of the old bead board, the bathroom cabinets are old windows, artifacts that were discovered in the sound adorn many rooms,” explains Stinson.
The three-bedroom home, with a gas fireplace and seating for eight, also boasts an abundance of outdoor living space. In the wind and salt air found right outside their door, guests may enjoy swimming, crabbing and paddle-boarding during their days and star-gazing and story-telling by night. Situated on a dock that extends 20–30 feet from the driveway, the home sits on pilings high above the sound, offering guests plenty of water access as well as a breathtaking 180-degree, panoramic view. Endless nautical pursuits may be enjoyed off of the spacious decks, including a pier that extends off the back of the house to a location roughly 50 feet from the water’s edge. There is even a delightful outdoor shower above the water. For more information about The Stinson Ranch, including a tour of its online photo gallery, please visit http://goo.gl/bMA8xw.
