On Saturday, May 16, 2015, Hope For The Warriors® is proud to celebrate the 10th Annual Run For The Warriors® presented by Stevenson Automotive. This event will be highlighted by an inspiring opening ceremony that will feature George Cattelona, Marine Corps veteran, who was part of the landing and eventual capture of the Japanese island of Iwo Jima in World War II.
After the opening ceremony, handcycles will start the races on newly USATF certified race routes, which start and finish on the track at Jacksonville High School. Also, members of Ainsley’s Angels, a foundation that aims to ensure everyone can experience endurance events by building awareness of America's special needs community, will be participating in the run.
“Over the years the Jacksonville community’s support for the Run For The Warriors® has been overwhelming,” Robin Kelleher, Hope For The Warriors® President said. “As we celebrate the 10th Annual Run For The Warriors® we will continue to honor the strength and resolve of the military community in Jacksonville.”
General registration for the run is $40 after Tuesday, May 12, 2015, $25 for veterans and active duty service members, and free to Gold Star families and wounded warriors. Same day registration will be available. Awards will be announced and presented to the top three male and female participants overall for the Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and to the top 3 in the following categories: wheelchair, handcycle, and age categories. Run For The Warriors® races are unique events dedicated to the men and women wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, their families, and families of the fallen. It is a celebration of their strength and resolve and a promise to continue restoring self, family, and hope. The goal of each race is to establish a long-term understanding and respect for the needs of local military families in their communities. The Run For The Warriors® race series also provides wounded service members encouragement and the opportunity to pursue the sport of running, walking, or cycling to assist in their physical and emotional rehabilitation.
All proceeds from the 10th Annual Run For The Warriors® will benefit Hope For The Warriors® (http://www.hopeforthewarriors.org), a national nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty. Hope For The Warriors® is dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.
