Harrisonburg Rescue Squad to Host Open House on Saturday, June 6, 2015
Harrisonburg, VA (PRWEB) May 12, 2015 -- On Saturday, June 6th, the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad (HRS) will be hosting its annual Open House at HRS’s station - 1700 Reservoir St. - from 11am-3pm. The event is open to the public and children are encouraged to attend.
This year’s Open House will include an extrication demonstration to be held at 1pm. The HRS Special Operations team will demonstrate how patients are removed from motor vehicle accidents via the agency’s heavy rescue squad truck and extrication tools. Each year, the demonstration proves to be an exciting event for all attendees. The team will also offer tours of HRS’s new 2015 Pierce Velocity Heavy Rescue.
Surrounding the extrication demonstration will be interactive equipment demonstrations where community members and kids can learn more about the tools that HRS volunteers use every day to provide excellent patient care, including tools to take vital signs and assist with CPR. There will also be a CPR demonstration to help community members understand what to do in an emergency. Kids and adults will have the opportunity to explore emergency vehicles and tour an ambulance as well as the Heavy Rescue, Special Emergency Response Vehicles (SERVs), Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) unit and other apparatus.
HRS has an extensive volunteer history that will be shared with the public during the event. For history buffs, decades of photographs highlighting the agency’s apparatus and membership dating back to 1949 when the agency was formed will be available for viewing. Food will be available throughout the event.
Whether community members are interested in seeing how their rescue squad works, meeting the volunteers, touring the apparatus, seeing an extrication demo, learning about membership opportunities or just having a day out with family and friends, there will be something fun for everyone. Visit HRS’s Facebook page (Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Inc.) for updates on the event as the date approaches.
