California Southern University Alumni Recognized by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2015 -- California Southern University alumni Dr. Inge Guen and Judge David Widmaier have been recognized by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) Outstanding Graduates and Famous Alumni Program. The honors were announced at the DEAC’s annual conference, held April 19-21 in Chicago.
The DEAC has conducted its Outstanding and Famous Alumni Program for 32 consecutive years as a way to celebrate the significant accomplishments of the graduates of its member institutions. Selection criteria include the graduates’ academic records, as well as the level and quality of their contributions to both a greater societal good and their chosen professions.
Dr. Inge Guen is a 2011 graduate of CalSouthern’s PsyD program, who has used the knowledge and skills she acquired to more effectively care for severely injured service members and veterans at Bethesda, Maryland’s Walter Reed National Military Medical Center—her life’s work. For her dedication to this work, Dr. Guen has received the Daughters of the American Revolution’s prestigious Ellen Hardin Walworth Medal for Patriotism, as well as the American Red Cross (National Capital Region) Outstanding Volunteer Award. In addition, she has been “coined” (a traditional military honor) by Lieutenant General Patricia Horoho, the U.S. Army Surgeon General and Commanding General of the U.S. Army Medical Command.
The Honorable Judge David Widmaier, a 2011 graduate of CalSouthern’s Master of Science in Law program, has twice been named Arizona Judge of the Year. A justice court judge and magistrate in Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona, he also works to improve the administration of justice in Arizona and across the country, serving on the Arizona Judicial Council and as Arizona’s representative to the National Judges Association. He is a faculty member and mentor judge for the Arizona Judicial College and has served as president of the Arizona Justice of the Peace Association. He also is the recipient of the 2014 CalSouthern Difference Award.
“California Southern University is extremely pleased and quite honored to have Dr. Guen and Judge Widmaier recognized by the DEAC’s Outstanding and Famous Alumni Program,” says Dr. Caroll Ryan, president of the university. “We are so proud of their dedicated work and well-earned accomplishments.
