Many people forget that in order to touch type efficiently they not only need good typing accuracy and technique, but also the use of an ergonomic keyboard that’s in tip top shape. Regularly and properly cleaning a keyboard will ensure it will be of service for many years.

The latest blog entry by Ultimate Typing™ shares a how-to on cleaning a keyboard the right way. The tutorial asks the user to remove all keys from a keyboard and put them in a container with a tightly fitting lid. The user then needs to add water and some mild soap into the container and thoroughly shake the tightly closed container until foam and bubbles appear. After rinsing the keys to wash off the soapy water, the user has to let them to air dry on paper towels.

As the how-to tutorial explains, while waiting for the keys to air dry the computer user should attend to the keyboard base. After removing debris and dust by gently patting the keyboard on its back, the individual must use a compressed air bottle to blow away any remaining dust and other impurities that have built up. Before replacing the keys, it’s important to disinfect the keyboard with gentle wipes.

eReflect shares the keyboard cleaning tutorial by Sean-com in hopes that it will help many people properly clean their keyboard without risking damaging it. It’s crucial that people follow the process step by step and not bring any liquids near the keyboard base. It’s also important that the keys completely air dry before being put back on the keyboard, eReflect reminds readers.
