New Book About Minecraft, ‘Invasion of the Overworld,’ Gets Gamers Reading
ALBANY, N.Y. (PRWEB) May 13, 2015 -- “Invasion of the Overworld” is Mark Cheverton’s first book in his Gameknight999 adventure series about the popular Minecraft video game, offering parents a novel method to encourage reading to their children.
“Of course, a love of reading is its own gift, but I also wanted to find a good way to teach my son, who loves Minecraft, important life lessons,” says Mark Cheverton, a former public school teacher of 15 years, an engineer with GE and a father who was inspired to find a novel method to encourage reading for his son and other children.
“Because I’m using the thing that kids are obsessed with, Minecraft, I’ve been able to motivate hundreds of thousands of kids to put down the tablet and mouse, and read. Many kids have also told me that they are now inspired to write their own Minecraft books. That’s like frosting on the cake!”
Bullying, or cyberbullying, and how to deal with it are important topics Cheverton wanted to address for his young readers. Gameknight999, the series’ protagonist, loved Minecraft, but above all else, he loved “to grief” – to intentionally ruin the gaming experience for other users.
When one of his father’s inventions teleports him into the game, Gameknight is forced to live out a real-life adventure inside a digital world. What will happen if he’s killed? Will he respawn? Die in real life? Stuck in the game, Gameknight discovers Minecraft’s best-kept secret, something not even the game’s programmers realize: the creatures within the game are alive! He will have to stay one step ahead of the sharp claws of zombies and pointed fangs of spiders, but he’ll also have to learn to make friends and work as a team if he has any chance of surviving the Minecraft war his arrival has started.
This action-packed tribute to the worldwide computer game phenomenon is a runaway publishing smash and the perfect companion for Minecraft fans of all ages. It’s the perfect gift for parents seeking a novel method to encourage reading to their children.
“Invasion of the Overworld” has already had major success, as evidenced by the book’s Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/Invasion-Overworld-Gameknight999-Unofficial-Minecrafters/dp/1632207117. Three hundred reviewers have given the book five stars. It reached No. 29 on Amazon’s top 100 in December of 2013 and the entire series was recently on the New York Times Bestseller list in February, 2015. Published in 15 countries around the world and translated into seven different languages, it has become a global phenomenon.
