Watson Starts Facebook Campaign to Fight Summer Hunger and Raise Awareness
West Haven, CT (PRWEB) May 21, 2015 -- Watson Inc. will be starting a Facebook campaign to alleviate summer hunger, through donations to the Connecticut Food Bank. “We hope that this campaign will help raise awareness about summer hunger in the state of Connecticut”, stated Moira Watson, Vice President of Marketing and Communication at Watson Inc. The greatest demand for food is in the summer. There is no other time of the year when the demands on food banks and soup kitchens are higher. “Hunger is usually not something we think about in the summer, but for working families who are already struggling to provide healthy, nutritious meals, summer is a challenging time,” added Watson.
According to the Connecticut Food Bank Web site, “Families who rely on free- or reduced-priced school meals to feed their children throughout the academic year are left struggling to find a way to keep their children fed when these programs end and summer vacation begins. A family with two children has to come up with more than 200 extra meals during the summer months when they don’t have access to school meals – and that’s an extremely difficult situation to face for most low-income families.” You can read more about summer hunger on the Connecticut Food Bank Website: http://www.ctfoodbank.org/about-hunger
Starting June 8th, Watson will start a Facebook campaign to raise $2,500 for the Connecticut Food Bank. Watson will donate $1 for every “Page Like” it receives on its Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/YourWatson, up to 2,500 page likes or $2,500 dollars. Once the goal of $2,500 is reached, the campaign will be successfully completed. A second campaign is also being planned for the fall of 2015.
For every $1 donated, Connecticut Food Bank can distribute $4 worth of food at wholesale value.
“Starting June 8th, we hope that our customers, employees, and members of the community will help us support the Connecticut Food Bank’s efforts to fight hunger and help raise awareness of Summer Hunger” shared Watson. “We really hope that we will be writing a check to the Food Bank for $2,500 before the end of June,” she continued.
