Hastings and Hastings Lauds North Carolina Police Departments Effort to Support the Special Olympics
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) May 21, 2015 -- Police officers in North Carolina, armed with a megaphone, perched themselves atop a Chick Filet to implore citizens to support the upcoming Special Olympics. Citizens are calling the effort “Cops on Top,” and it is a precursor to the police departments annual Special Olympic Torch Run, in which officers run through town, and hand off a torch to fellow officers, in order to draw awareness to the upcoming Special Olympics.
“What these officers are doing in North Carolina is a wonderful thing. It would be nice to see a similar stunt in Phoenix. The Special Olympics in phoenix involves 16,000 athletes, and empowers 180,000 Arizonians with intellectual disabilities,” said Joseph Brown, Attorney, at Hastings and Hastings.
The Police Department of North Carolina is setting the pace for philanthropy across the country. Thus far, law enforcement has raised money for the upcoming Olympic Games in May. This is in no small part due to the “Cops on Top” campaign.
Initially, residents of North Carolina were intimidated by the campaign. The sight of a police offer on top of a building, shouting into a megaphone, suggests danger. But after listening to the vaunts of the police officers, “support our special needs athletes! Pledge your support to the 2015 North Carolina Special Olympics!” the fears of the residents subsided.
The Special Olympics is the world’s largest organization for adults and children with mental disabilities. Globally, the program offers competition to more than 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries. There is a special Olympic competition every day, adding up to a grand total of 70,000 events a year. Sports include: Alpine Skiing, Bocce, Bowling, Cycling, Handball, Judo, Power Lifting, Sailing, Snowboarding, Softball, Table Tennis, and Volleyball to name a few.
Moreover, there is a bi-annual World Games competition, one mega event for winter sports, another for summer. This year, the 2015 World Games will be held in Los Angeles California, from July 25, to August 2, 2015. Volunteers and athletes flock from all over the world to enjoy competition, comradery, and support.
“The Special Olympics is one of those rare charities that empowers everyone involved. It brings the community closer together, as athletes enjoy the thrill of competition, and volunteers enjoy the smiles on their faces,” said Anthony Campagnolo, attorney at Hastings and Hastings.
