xAd Mobilizes the Internet Community to Support Relief Efforts in Nepal
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 14, 2015 -- From May 18-24, 50,000 people will gather in New York to celebrate Internet Week, by participating in over 250 events around the city to celebrate the global impact of technology. To show how the local internet community in New York can support people around the world, xAd, a location technology company, is partnering with Oxfam America, a global organization working to right the wrongs of poverty in more than 90 countries, to raise awareness and drive donations for relief efforts in Nepal.
Mike Delaney, Director of Humanitarian Response for Oxfam America, added, “Since the 7.8-magnitude earthquake occurred, more than 8 million people have been affected, losing their homes, their families, and their livelihood. As monsoon season begins, this support is even more critical. Working with companies like xAd, makes it possible for Oxfam to deliver aid to local communities in need, including clean water and hygiene kits to thousands of people.”
xAd CEO, Dipanshu “D” Sharma, intended to spend his 40th birthday ascending to Basecamp on Mount Everest. Just two weeks before his trip, the devastating earthquake hit Nepal. Since the earthquake, D and his wife, Julie, used a Crowdrise campaign to do their part to raise relief funds on their own -- but they wanted to do more. xAd reached out to Oxfam to start a pro-bono ad campaign to run during Internet Week to help increase awareness and enhance their initial efforts.
D Sharma explained, “Since it was founded in 2009, xAd has created powerful location and mobile targeting technologies that help nearly 1 million brands and advertisers not only drive local market awareness, but actual in-store visits and sales. So why can’t this same technology be used to do the same for relief efforts?”
Through xAd’s patented targeting technology, attendees of Internet Week events will be served mobile ads that raise awareness for the relief efforts and drive donations to Oxfam America through a mobile-optimized donation page. The campaign ads will be directed to people who are at or nearby key Internet Week venues during conference hours and scheduled events. Additionally, xAd is leveraging event sponsorships with Mobile Media Summit on May 18 and M1Summit on May 19 to further mobilize the internet community with on-site announcements and signs.
D Sharma added, “xAd hopes to prove how the Internet community can help Nepal – by using mobile-location ad technology to provide relief to the people and places that need it most.”
