DISC Sports & Spine Center Signs Agreement with Anthem Blue Cross to Provide In-Network Services
Marina del Rey, CA (PRWEB) May 14, 2015 -- DISC Sports & Spine Center (DISC) today announced a partnership with Anthem Blue Cross, California’s largest commercial payor, to provide its subscribers with in-network services at both of DISC’s ambulatory surgery centers, Diagnostic and Interventional Surgical Center and DISC Surgery Center at Newport Beach. Effective immediately, patients with Anthem Blue Cross coverage may seek care from DISC across a wide range of specialties, including minimally invasive spine surgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, pain management and conservative treatments.
Today’s announcement, made by DISC’s Chief Operating Officer Karen Reiter, also represents the growing trend of insurance companies recognizing ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) as viable options for affordable, top-quality care outside of the hospital setting. DISC forged agreements with UnitedHealthcare in 2010 and Aetna in 2011, before beginning negotiations with Anthem Blue Cross in 2013. DISC’s 2014 joint venture with industry leading Surgical Care Affiliates helped move those talks forward.
“We are very pleased at the opportunity to work with Anthem Blue Cross in breaking some exciting new ground for patients,” said Reiter. “Such an in-network relationship gives subscribers affordable access to superior healthcare while reducing the overall impact on an already taxed health system in America.”
Launched in 2007, the DISC medical group has prided itself in expanding the number and type of high-acuity surgeries capable in the outpatient setting—each provided safely, efficiently and with outcomes often surpassing those in the hospital setting. DISC’s dedication to recruiting top-quality clinical experts and careful selection of clinically eligible patients substantially reduces the risk of infection, earning DISC’s ASCs a zero percent MRSA infection rate in spine surgery and AAAHC accreditation.
To properly accommodate and provide the best possible services to all future patients, DISC plans to expand its full-time and per diem staff by 25 - 30%. This will be particularly important as the center continues to explore other in-network opportunities and sub-specialty service lines to deliver its high-acuity, musculoskeletal and neurological care throughout Los Angeles and Orange County.
