Excelera® Specialty Pharmacy Network Welcomes Northwestern Memorial Hospital
Minneapolis, Minn. (PRWEB) May 15, 2015 -- ExceleraRx Corp. announced that Northwestern Memorial Hospital, one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers, has joined the Excelera national specialty pharmacy network and national collaborative platform.
The Excelera network consists of point-of-care based specialty pharmacies owned by health systems and academic medical centers. The network provides members nationally scaled infrastructure and support to help them gain access to limited-distribution drugs and restrictive payer agreements so members can provide continuity of care for their patients with complex conditions who require specialty drugs. The network also serves as a national platform for collaboration to optimize outpatient specialty drug therapy value for population health.
“This collaboration affords members opportunities to tap into best practices that improve the care we extend to some of our most vulnerable patient populations,” said Eric Conley, Vice President, Operations, Northwestern Memorial Hospital. “Upholding the highest standards for quality and safety are central to our mission. And, affiliating with Excelera was in-keeping with our expectations of extending the best care possible to communities we’re privileged to serve.”
“We are very excited that Northwestern Memorial Hospital has chosen to join the Excelera network,” said Jim Fox, Chief Executive Officer of the Excelera network. “This offers a collaborative opportunity to expand outpatient point of care specialty drug therapy to complex patients, increasing quality and value.”
Specialty pharmaceuticals are expensive drugs that may require special handing and administration and are often used to treat the most ill and clinically complex patients. The Excelera organization will partner with Northwestern Memorial Hospital to develop key specialty pharmacy capabilities including training, operations, data aggregation, reporting for drug manufacturers and payers, revenue cycle management and pharmacy business office.
In addition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Excelera organization includes Henry Ford Health System, Catholic Health Initiatives, Fairview Health Services (which includes the University of Minnesota Medical Center), Intermountain Healthcare, Avera Health, Banner Health and Regional Health.
