Understanding the cost and impact of ISO 27001 is critical to helping your management team understand the far-reaching business implications of certification.

Pivot Point Security was well-represented by John Verry, Security Sherpa and Principal Consultant, at the 27K Security Summit for the Americas. On May 13, 2015, Verry gave his presentation on "Developing Your Company's ISO 27001 Roadmap" to an eager audience all bound together by information security concerns.

The 27K Security Summit for the Americas was promoted as a gathering of experts in the ISO/IEC 27001 standard together with those who are on the front lines of international IT security to promote the standard in the US and the Western Hemisphere. "This is a much-needed focus on ISO 27001 in the Americas," said Verry. "ISO 27001 has become the de facto standard for information security around the world. Now it is taking firm root in the US and in recent years, we've seen an explosive growth in demand from clients across all industries."

Verry's presentation focused on building your company's ISO 27001 roadmap. It was designed to answer the basic question, "Should we pursue ISO 27001?" Beyond that basic question, though, there are a myriad of factors. Verry addressed how to build a business case for ISO 27001 - the Drivers and Return on Investment (ROI) - and how to gain management approval. "Understanding the cost and impact of ISO 27001 is critical to helping your management team understand the far-reaching business implications of certification," said Verry.

Perhaps the most important information Verry imparted in his presentation was his tips on minimizing risk in the project execution, as he focused on timeline, scope, integration and company participation. The enthusiastic audience walked away with plenty of food for thought - thus achieving the major goal of the conference: to educate attendees about the merits of ISO 27001 in today's business environment.
