Jennifer Rose Associates, a Rhode Island based business expands into the growing Medical Marijuana Market
Providence, RI (PRWEB) May 20, 2015 -- Jennifer Rose Associates had 150 specialty chocolate store customers (chocolatiers) that were utilizing the company’s Pour-n-Pack packaging system to create artisan chocolate bars. After a licensed dispensary in California contacted owner Paul DeFruscio and successfully began using the Pour-n-Pack program to produce and package medicated chocolate bars in-house, he decided to pursue the medicated chocolate bar market, offering a complete production and packaging system.
The system (100% USA-made equipment) enables dispensaries and edibles suppliers to manufacture chocolate bars in which the active ingredient, CBD/THC oil, is evenly mixed, creating a uniform dose for each bar. The result is customer consumption with more predictable medicinal effects.
To produce a chocolate bar, the system operator just pours a mixture of tempered chocolate and active ingredients into a recyclable plastic tray and then inserts the solidified bar into a self-sealing starch-based plastic bag – all materials are food-safe, FDA approved and recyclable (where available).
DeFruscio stated, “Using this system, a dispensary can produce a single-dose chocolate bar with a consistent amount of CBD/THC. Uneven medicine dosage is no longer a problem and lessens the chance of customers getting in over their heads. My system gives dispensaries and edibles supplier’s control. They can produce bars themselves with an even dosage and not rely on less predictable products made off site.”
DeFruscio’s system provides all the equipment and materials needed to temper bulk chocolate, dispense it into individual plastic trays, cool the bars, and handle and package finished bars. Dispensaries or medibles suppliers can also brand their businesses with logos and dosage amounts in the molding trays and packaging. “This can be very important as packaging laws change in the industry,” DeFruscio said, “and of course medical marijuana vendors can also produce non-medicated chocolate products to generate another revenue stream.”
“Chocolatiers’ success with our packaging system provides the perfect case study for the medical marijuana edibles market,” said DeFruscio. “Initial response has been very positive and we are currently working with three licensed dispensaries in California. My goal is to fund our expansion with a crowdfunding campaign.”
The crowdfunding campaign is now live on Indiegogo.com. Capital raised will be used for marketing to dispensary and edibles suppliers at targeted trade shows and to purchase demonstration equipment.
DeFruscio said, “I see the medical and legal marijuana industry as the next big opportunity, similar to the Internet explosion 25 years ago. IBIS World is projecting sales of $13 billion and employment at 212,000 by 2020. The prospect for ancillary businesses like mine to be a part of this opportunity is truly exciting, and I expect that the industry will fuel business growth in many ways yet to be conceived.”
