Upgrades to Landfill Leachate Collection System Benefits Environment
Vega Baja, Puerto Rico (PRWEB) May 20, 2015 -- According to landfill site sub-contractor, Olmar Lopez Vidal S.C from International Technical Services Corp: "The Municipal Vega Baja Landfill is an active landfill operated by La Vega Eco Park Inc., which currently has an average disposal rate of between 600-650 tons of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) per day. The landfill has recently constructed a new fully-compliant 10-acre cell, complete with a landfill leachate collection system, 115,000 gallon stainless steel leachate tank, leachate control system and pump station."
The new pump system, which has been approved by the Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board (EQB) and endorsed by EPA Region 2, was designed and built by International Technical Services Corp (Waste Division) based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. State of the art EPG pumps, provided by Diamond Scientific, leading suppliers of landfill equipment, were installed in the new upgrade. The design and equipment will ensure that the landfill complies with environmental standards.
"All the landfill leachate produced in the cell will be collected and disposed of appropriately at a wastewater treatment plant nearby," explains Vidal.
Diamond Scientific supplies EPG pumps to both non-hazardous and hazardous landfill sites, as well as to paper mills and remediation sites world-wide. EPG pumps are specifically designed, patented and constructed for operation at solid waste landfill sites. Due to their robust durability in the most corrosive environments, EPG pumps are used in landfill sites all over the world, including North, South and Central America; Europe; Asia; Africa and Australia.
“When it comes to research, development and innovation, EPG has strived to establish "best practices," producing only top quality, products that are world-renown for their reliability and longevity, and consequently they are recognized as leaders in the industry," explains Ramon Rivera President of Diamond Scientific.
