Members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Gulf Coast Section (GCS) Petro-Tech Study Group invited WellEz Director of Operations, James Morley to speak at the group’s luncheon on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in Houston, TX. The group, mainly consisting of petroleum technologists, regularly meets to exchange knowledge, experience, and gain education on the latest oil and gas technology. Tuesday’s event highlighted wellbore diagrams and the data-driven approach taken by WellEz field data reporting.

The presentation included the benefits of a drawing a proper wellbore diagram and the challenges that operators face when doing so.

“I have spent days working on a diagram in excel, but with people opening it in different versions of Excel it ends up looking awful,” a Petro-Tech Study Group member said. “Not to mention my diagram became quickly outdated without continued attention.”

WellEz is a cloud-based operations reporting solution that puts an emphasis on data quality and ease of entry when it comes to the wellbore diagram.

“We know this process can be time consuming and we try to remedy that with a WBD that develops directly from field data as you drill and complete the well,” said Morley.

The group went on to discuss the various industry solutions to the challenges faced by petroleum technologists as well as tips to reading and interpreting the information displayed on wellbore diagram reports. The session ended with a 15 minute Q&A.

“I was honored to be invited to discuss challenges and best practices concerning wellbore diagrams with such a knowledgeable group of professionals,” said Morley. “I look forward to visiting again both as a speaker and guest.”
