Top Marine Leaders from the 2014 Ammunition Technician Community Recognized at 6th Annual Marine Corps Association & Foundation Ammo Tech Awards Reception
Triangle, Virginia (PRWEB) May 23, 2015 -- The Marine Corps Association & Foundation held the 6th Annual MCA&F Ammo Tech Awards Reception on May 20 in conjunction with the Program Manager for Ammunition at the Marine Corps Systems Command. The reception was held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia and provided the opportunity to celebrate the vital role Marine ammunition technicians play in today’s operational environment and to recognize top performing Ammo Tech community Marines in 2014.
The evening’s guest speaker, LtGen Ronald Coleman, USMC (Ret), discussed the special contributions made by Marines in the demanding ammunition technician field and paid special tribute to Gunnery Sergeant Edwin W. Johnson, a dynamic ammo tech leader who was killed in action leading Marines in a firefight in the Ganjgal Valley in Afghanistan in 2009. GySgt Johnson is the namesake for the three awards presented to enlisted Marines. Following his remarks, General Coleman helped present the evening’s awards which included the following:
• The 2014 Gunnery Sergeant Edwin W. Johnson, Jr. Memorial Ammunition Technician Marine of the Year Award for Superior Achievement, sponsored by Rheinmetall and the Marine Corps Association & Foundation was presented to Lance Corporal Harlee M. Bradford
• The 2014 Gunnery Sergeant Edwin W. Johnson, Jr. Memorial Ammunition Technician Non Commissioned Officer of the Year Award for Professional Excellence, sponsored by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and the Marine Corps Association & Foundation was presented to Staff Sergeant Richard N. Lecompte
• The 2014 Gunnery Sergeant Edwin W. Johnson, Jr. Memorial Ammunition Technician Staff Non Commissioned Officer of the Year Award for Distinguished Service, sponsored by L-3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems and the Marine Corps Association & Foundation was presented to Staff Sergeant Kenneth O. Kahalewai
• The 2014 Ammunition Officer of the Year Award for Exceptional Management, sponsored by ATK and the Marine Corps Association & Foundation was presented to Chief Warrant Officer 3 Michael P. Ruegger
