2015 Funding Roadshow Returns to Toronto on May 22 at MaRS Discovery District
Montreal, QC (PRWEB) May 21, 2015 -- The 2015 Funding Roadshow, a national initiative with 11 city stops across Canada, today announced the details of its second Toronto stop. (For a complete schedule, please see https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/2015-funding-roadshow-toronto-may-tickets-15469327174.)
Presented by Intuit and organized by Fundica, the 2015 Funding Roadshow gives start-ups and SMEs the opportunity to pitch their businesses – and potentially secure funding – to a panel of financial institutions, venture capitalists, angel investors, government organizations and private lenders. Funders benefit from exposure to emerging opportunities and the chance to invest before the rest of the market. The objective of the Funding Roadshow is to better educate entrepreneurs and facilitate connections with private investors and public funders.
Up to 20 select entrepreneurs will pitch to a panel of 8 to 10 funders. Pitches are limited to five minutes, followed by an eight-minute Q&A session. All participating entrepreneurs must expect revenue growth in excess of 50% and present a strong technological element in their vision. The MaRS Discovery District stop will offer a choice of several workshops, on related issues, to registered attendees.
Participating funders at MaRS Discovery District include: First Stone Venture Partners, Impression Ventures, Maple Leaf Angels, MaRS IAF, Mitacs, NSERC, Plazacorp Ventures, R&D Capital, Ryerson Ventures and SheEO Accelerator.
A winning entrepreneur will be chosen at each city stop. Winners will receive numerous prizes including: six months of office space in the greater San Francisco area, round-trip airfare to San Francisco, cloud hosting packages from CANARIE and SoftLayer, and one year of Intuit QuickBooks Online.
“As one of the world’s largest urban innovation hubs, connecting entrepreneurs with education and funding opportunities is critical to our mission,” says Amie Sergas, Director, Business Acceleration Program Network, MaRS Discovery District. “The 2015 Funding Roadshow actively engages thousands of people across the country; we are thrilled to host their second Toronto stop.”
Patrick Lee is a Partner at WTI, a VC and private equity firm the San Francisco Bay area. Mr. Lee will sit on the fireside chat “VC Funding in Canada vs. the US” at MaRS Discovery District on Friday, May 22 at 9:15 AM.
“The Bay area draws entrepreneurs, seeking financing, from all over the world. It can be a challenging process. The more prepared entrepreneurs are, the greater their chances of success. The Funding Roadshow is doing an exceptional job of supporting, coaching and introducing Canadian entrepreneurs to VCs in California. We believe that this type of preparation is essential but often overlooked. We are pleased to support the Funding Roadshow by sharing our perspectives, which are based on many years of experience in venture capital in the region,” explains Mr. Lee.
