Hackathon 5 will bring together the Charleston tech community in a creative, fun, and productive way, and help SPARC Gives continue its mission of technology education and advocacy.
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) May 20, 2015
SPARC Hackathon 5 has opened registration for the annual mobile application development competition being presented by SPARC Gives, a nonprofit focused on technology outreach in the Charleston-area. SPARC Hackathon 5 is now accepting registrations for teams who wish to compete in the overnight two-day programming event on August 28-29, 2015, at SPARC’s headquarters in Charleston, SC. Teams will design, develop, and pitch mobile apps to win cash prizes at the Southeast’s premier technology competition.
SPARC Hackathon 5 will begin on August 28 at 5:00 and run continuously through the evening of August 29 at its Charleston, SC, headquarters on Daniel Island. Attendees of the fifth annual coding competition will include team contestants, sponsors, volunteers, SPARC staff, and the general public. In 2014, over 1000 people attended Hackathon 4, including 43 teams and over 100 contestants. More than three million lines of code were written over the two-day event, with “The Black Perl”, a team of Iron Yard students, winning the Best in Show grand prize.
"We believe the software development experience not only has the power to transform businesses and how they operate, but bring together people to bond, innovate, and ultimately change the world - a vision we like to share through Hackathon,” said Marc Murphy, CEO, SPARC. “Hackathon 5 will bring together the Charleston tech community in a creative, fun, and productive way, and help SPARC Gives continue its mission of technology education and advocacy."
On Friday, August 28, participants will begin checking in at the event at 5:00 p.m. with the opening kickoff and idea selection commencing at 7:00 p.m. Teams will then have from 8:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29 to develop their idea into an application. App building, deployment, and judging will follow as the event opens to the public for anyone over 18 years of age. The top ten apps will be pitched to the entire crowd at 8:00 p.m. with winners being announced at the start of the famous Hackathon after party at 9:00 p.m.
