Abt Associates to Evaluate Clean Energy and Climate Plan for Massachusetts
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) May 20, 2015 -- As part of a review of its Clean Energy and Climate Plan for 2020 (CECP), the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has selected Abt Associates to provide strategic and technical analysis and policy recommendations in support of its groundbreaking efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Massachusetts’ original CECP was developed in 2010 in response to the Commonwealth’s Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA) of 2008, which required the Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs to establish a statewide limit on GHG emissions of between 10 percent and 25 percent below 1990 levels by 2020 — on the way toward an 80 percent reduction in GHG emissions by 2050. The 2020 CECP contains the measures necessary to meet the limit.
“Abt Associates is very excited to help Massachusetts evaluate new strategies for additional improvements to their clean energy and climate plan. Our team members were involved in the development of the original CECP, and have worked closely with the Commonwealth to deploy our CarbonCounts software for tracking progress on the goals of the CECP,” said Dr. Joshua Lipton, vice president for Abt’s Environment and Natural Resources division.
Michelle Manion, a Senior Associate at Abt Associates, will lead the project.
