"Our new lasers are a small, powerful and cost effective infrared light source for 3D sensing laser radar systems." Kirk Otis, TriLumina CEO.
ALBUQUERQUE, NM (PRWEB) May 20, 2015
TriLumina Corp., a leading developer of high pulsed power IR illumination solutions, announced today that it has been named a “Cool Vendor” in the "Cool Vendors in Automotive Electronics, 2015" report by Gartner, Inc.
The Cool Vendors in the report develop innovative technologies in the areas of LiDAR, driver monitoring systems (DMS) and machine vision for automotive applications. TriLumina is one of the few laser manufacturers that is developing illumination solutions for solid-state LiDAR and driver illumination products for the automotive industry. TriLumina devices, based on established semiconductor laser technology, utilize existing manufacturing processes, are highly modifiable for various applications and provide the kind of high reliability and extreme operational capabilities demanded by the automotive industry.
James Hines, Research Director at Gartner, Inc. and co-author of the report, wrote, “Modern cars will rely on a family of complementary sensing technologies to enhance the situational awareness of the driver, assist in collision avoidance and eventually automate the driving function. Radar and camera-based embedded vision systems are already in widespread use for a variety of ADAS functions. Lidar holds great promise as an automotive sensing technology because of its high degree of precision in direct ranging, free space detection (detecting whether an object is in a particular place at a particular time) and immunity to light conditions and its ability to scan a wide range of view.”
"We believe Gartner’s recognition confirms TriLumina’s strategy to produce illuminators that enable mass adoption of solid state LiDAR and DMS that will prevent accidents, save lives and enable considerably higher fuel-efficiency," said Kirk Otis, TriLumina’s Chief Executive Officer. "Our new lasers are a small, powerful and cost effective infrared light source for 3D sensing laser radar systems. They are ideally suited for automotive applications. It is not an exaggeration to claim that nearly every OEM and Tier 1 supplier is looking to develop LiDAR for future safety systems leading to autonomous driving."
