United Way NCA to Host 3rd Annual Do More 24 on June 4
Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 21, 2015 -- Today, United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) announced that this year’s Do More 24, a 24-hour online crowdfunding campaign, will begin at 12:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, and end at 11:59 p.m. The United Way NCA-hosted day of giving features live online updates, special cash awards for nonprofits, and Do More 24 special events and restaurant promotions throughout the greater Washington region. Any nonprofit serving the National Capital Area may register to participate through May 27, and to date, more than 450 nonprofits are already registered.
“Do More 24 is a chance for the entire region to come together and give where they live,” said United Way NCA President and CEO Rosie Allen-Herring. “Individuals and businesses are invited to join forces on June 4 to give local nonprofits a well-deserved and always-welcome boost as they do their essential work helping our neighbors in need and making our region a better place for all.” Since 2013, Do More 24 has raised more than $2.4 million in support of hundreds of nonprofits serving the region.
“Do More 24 gives nonprofits, no matter their size or scope, a region-wide venue to showcase their programs and services and connect with new donors,” added Allen-Herring. Through the domore24.org giving portal, citizens and organizations alike can search for and make donations to support a variety of causes including animal welfare and the environment, arts and culture, education, financial stability and workforce readiness, as well as basic health and human services.

In addition to receiving online donations, participating nonprofits are eligible for cash awards offered by United Way NCA totaling $82,500 in a variety of prize categories including most donations overall, largest single donation, most “selfie” pictures, most $24 donations during certain hours, and more.
Any nonprofit serving DC, Northern Virginia and Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland wishing to participate must register by May 27. United Way NCA is powering the Do More 24 campaign by providing participating nonprofits with a quick-to-create, customizable fundraising page on the Do More 24 website, staff training and a toolkit of outreach materials.
This year’s Do More 24 supporters are Goldman Sachs, Comcast-NBCUniversal, Deloitte, Walmart Foundation, M&T Bank and Sterne Kessler Goldstein Fox. Media sponsors include NBC4, Washington Business Journal, Big 100.3, Hot 99.5, 97.1 WASH-FM, 98.7 MZQ, iHeart Radio and DCist.
