Participation in the US Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism provides prescreening benefits to ChemWerth, a well-established generic active pharmaceutical ingredient supplier

“C-TPAT certification affords our customers timely delivery of high quality active pharmaceutical ingredients,” said Peter Werth, President and CEO of ChemWerth.

ChemWerth, Inc., a pioneer in developing and supplying generic active pharmaceutical ingredients, announced it has been recertified as a member of the US Customs and Border Protection program, Customs–Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). In making the announcement, ChemWerth founder and chief executive officer Peter J. Werth cited C-TPAT as a factor in the company’s ability to deliver finished generic APIs rapidly to its US-based clientele, further helping ChemWerth provide effective medicines to the global community at affordable prices.

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sought to secure and facilitate imports arriving in the US. The Customs–Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) was formed. C-TPAT seeks to leverage corporate influence throughout the supply chain to extend the regulatory reach of the US government. C-TPAT members cooperate with CBP and other participating government agencies, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), by documenting and validating their supply chain security measures according to C-TPAT guidelines and working with US Supply Chain Security Specialists. Member companies are given prescreening privileges including front of the line inspections and penalty mitigation that allow expedited processing at US borders. As of December 2014, C-TPAT has 10,864 partner companies.

“C-TPAT certification affords our customers timely delivery of high quality active pharmaceutical ingredients,” said Peter Werth, President and CEO of ChemWerth.

Some the benefits of C-TPAT certification include:

  •     Reduced number of U.S. Customs examinations
  •     Assurances of improved product safety
  •     Eligibility for participation in pilot programs, such as FDA Secure Supply Program

ChemWerth combines its participation in C-TPAT with its own dedicated purchasing and logistic teams working from its offices in the US, China and India to manage all logistical details. US based clients get considerable support to their efforts at bringing medicines to market quickly.
