Homeland Security Degrees Set To Be Introduced By Trident University International
Cypress, CA (PRWEB) May 22, 2015 -- Trident University International (Trident) is set to introduce degree programs in Homeland Security starting in the June 2015 Fastrac 8-week session. Housed within the College of Health Sciences and available at both the Bachelors and Masters levels, these programs are designed for both military and civilian students seeking a degree for a career at the federal, state, and municipal levels. Registration is open now.
Using a case-based approach that stresses evidence-based decision-making, these 100% online programs prepare students to respond to domestic crises, terrorist-based events, and natural disasters. With a focus on the development of critical thinking skills, the tools provided to students in these degree programs will give them the professional edge needed to excel in this currently developing and high pressure field.
“The protection of our homeland and its people are of the highest level of priority and public service, as we live in a world that is often impacted by natural disasters and terrorist attacks. These events require critical thinking and dependable solutions, and with the introduction of our Bachelor and Master of Science in Homeland Security programs, we are addressing that need by preparing graduates to be leaders in this developing field,” said Dr. Mickey Shachar, Program Director, Bachelor & Master of Science in Homeland Security.
The Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security (BSHLS) degree corresponds to the four pillars of the National Preparedness Goal (2011) and the Missions of the Strategic Plan of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) (2012). The pillars – prevent, protect, respond, and recover – are approached in a sequential manner, giving students a thorough understanding of the Homeland Security scope of responsibilities.
Students will learn about emerging trends and their potential impact on homeland security, as well as the ethical and legal aspects to support decision-making within the homeland security field.
The Master of Science in Homeland Security (MSHLS) program closely aligns with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission objectives and is appropriately sequenced to correspond to before, during, and after disaster scenarios on American soil.
For students with experience in homeland security, this program is an opportunity to gain advanced skills needed to respond to emergencies and disasters, as well as to further their understanding of legal and ethical practices in the field.
These programs resulted from years of research by the faculty within the programs, including Dr. Rudolph R. Bustos, Dr. Thomas B. Hunter, Dr. Jimmie E. Jacobs, Jr., Dr. Antonio Landell, Dr. David Smarsh, and Dr. Shachar. Approval from accrediting bodies, such as Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC), depended on many factors, and Trident is excited that both programs received final approval from WASC on February 11, 2015.
