The Inaugural Los Angeles Fermentation Festival Brings Successful Santa Barbara Event to New Audiences
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 27, 2015 -- Cultivate Events is proud to announce the first ever Los Angeles Fermentation Festival to be held on July 12, 2015, at the Venice Arts Plaza, located at 681 North Venice Blvd. This unique one-day event celebrates traditional fermented foods, and attendees can enjoy everything from fermented beverages, such as kombucha, cider and kefir, to pickles, sauerkraut, cultured vegetables, and sourdough bread.
The force behind the Los Angeles Fermentation Festival, Cultivate Events, produces festivals and events that promote local food and farming with an emphasis on education. Mother and daughter team Lynn Hartman and Katie Hershfelt also founded the ever-popular Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival, which drew over 1,000 attendees last year.
Co-Founder Katie Hershfelt recently noted, “The Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival sells out every year. With so many of our attendees making the trip from Los Angeles, it was only natural to expand the event’s reach to L.A. to bring these beneficial foods to a new audience. We couldn’t be more excited to share the wild world of ferments with Los Angelenos.”
Many informative and entertaining events are scheduled to take place on July 12th that emphasize both the delicious flavors and health benefits of fermented foods. The “Culture Petting Zoo” is an easy, hands-on way for attendees of all ages to learn about starter cultures, and the Fermentation Station stage features hands-on demonstrations that empower attendees to make their own ferments at home. Also taking place is the Screaming Pickle Contest, featuring homemade ferments judged by local media and fermentation celebrities. This fun contest has open entry so that any festival attendee may participate.
The Farm-to-Bar area, which has limited availability, will be held from 12pm to 3:30pm and features a range of exhibitors pouring samples of traditionally fermented alcoholic beverages such as wild wine, feral beer, cider, mead, jun, kvass, sake, farm-to-bar cocktails and much more. A Farm-to-Bar theater, showcasing area experts, will teach attendees how to make these traditional beverages and the health benefits of traditionally fermented libations.
“Interest in the benefits of fermented foods is skyrocketing - anyone that wants to know more about fermentation is in for a real treat,” said Marketing Director, Wil Fernandez. “We’ve always had a focus on supporting local fermenters. With the launch of the Los Angeles Fermentation Festival, we are continuing that history of support.”
