Savingforcollege.com’s 529 Day Campaign Aims to Raise Awareness for #1 Financial Concern
Pittsford, New York (PRWEB) May 26, 2015 -- In honor of National College Savings Day taking place on May 29, 2015, or “529 Day,” Savingforcollege.com has launched the “529 Reasons to Open a 529 Plan” campaign designed to raise awareness and usage of 529 plans by American families. Savingforcollege.com has enlisted its staff, partners and readers of the website to create the list of reasons, which includes the many benefits offered by 529 plans, as well as humorous and personal reasons. To further boost attention to the topic, Savingforcollege.com is running a $1,529 cash scholarship sweepstakes. Visitors to the website can enter the sweepstakes by submitting their own reason to open a 529 plan.
A recent Gallup poll revealed that having enough money to pay for college surpasses retirement as the top financial concern of parents of children under 18. 73% of these parents were worried about college savings compared to 68% who worry about their retirement. As the country's leading authority on 529 plans, Savingforcollege.com is in a unique position to educate, inform and draw attention to the solutions that are available for parents.
“Although saving and paying for college has become the #1 household concern, families saved less for college in 2015 than in 2014,” said Martha Kortiak Mert, VP of Marketing at Savingforcollege.com.
“The 529 Reasons campaign allows us to use a fun and playful approach, along with comprehensive information, to remind consumers that it’s easy to set up a 529 plan, start saving, and eliminate this worry,” she added.
Savingforcollege.com is also helping to increase 529 plan awareness by compiling details of the various nationwide contests, sweepstakes and events held by individual state college savings plans. A list of over twenty different promotional events has been collected thus far on the website as part of its 529 Day coverage and includes everything from discounted admission to local zoos to a $10,000 sweepstakes contest in Virginia.
The website is also hosting a live online "Q&A" webinar at 1 p.m. ET on May 29th, moderated by Forbes personal finance reporter Ashlea Ebeling and featuring a panel of three leading experts in the college savings industry. Savingforcollege.com founder Joe Hurley, financial planning consultant Marguerita Cheng, and Caroline Tucker, director of product management for USAA Investments will address common 529 plan topics, and field college savings questions submitted by the webinar audience. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) will also be on hand to discuss the revolutionary H.R. 529 bill and the future of 529 legislation. Anyone can sign up to attend this free 1-hour webcast. All webcast attendees will be eligible to win one of two $250 529 plan accounts given away by College Savings Bank, who is sponsoring the event.
