The program, called Safe Access, enables TruBlue Total House Care providers to assist seniors and their families by making homes friendlier for older adults. A new study from the Joint Center for Housing Studies shows that the number of people over the age of 75 will double from 6.9 million to 13.4 million in the next 20 years. The JCHS report also highlighted that millions of older adults who develop disabilities live in homes that lack accessibility features such as a no-step entry, single-floor living, extra-wide doorways and halls, accessible electrical controls and switches, and lever-style door and faucet handles. In fact, a 2011 American Housing Survey report reports that just 1 percent of US housing units have all five of these universal design features. Roughly two in five housing units in the United States have either none or only one of these features.
