Delaware Express (DES), which offers airport shuttle services, motor coach and car service in Delaware and surrounding states, has transitioned their bus fleet to green engine technology (98% emission free). DES is green by definition because they use high occupancy vehicles – ride share for clean air.

Under a partial government clean energy grant DES has converted some of their vans to CNG.

The goal is to reduce the instances of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, mercury, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter being released into water, air, and soil. The reduction in emissions will prevent mercury poisoning, respiratory disease, smog, acid rain, and worsening climate change.

Because Delaware Express is committed to preserving the environment for future generations, the company has been making the switch to greener energy sources for the past year. Renewable energy is better for the environment and for companies, as it is more cost-efficient to use as well as consuming less water and damaging less land than fossil fuel production.

“The United States faces a host of global and national challenges. Our nation’s energy security is largely dependent on the efficiency of and fuel choices made for its transportation system,” stated Gerry Frenze, President of Delaware Express. In the United States, the transportation industry accounts for 40% of volatile organic compound emissions, 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, 55% of nitrogen oxide emissions, and over 80% of carbon monoxide emissions. The transportation industry alone consumes more oil than is produced domestically, and the problem will continue to grow as energy use increases.

Over 100 of Delaware Express' drivers recently completed a two-day course about green sustainable energy. The drivers are now Certified Eco Green. Delaware Express drivers have also received the highest safety rating from the Department of Defense, the NCAA, and the Transportation Safety Exchange, the highest standard of ground transportation safety. The new driver certification is just another step toward Delaware Express' goal of safety and environmental protection.
