The globally standardized certification methodology will be distributed across healthcare organizations, clinical trial sponsors, CROs and regulatory agencies.

HealthCarePoint (HCP) today announced that its International Electronic Education Network is adding the Dutch language to the globally standardized NIH Stroke Scale international initiative program (NIHSS). The release follows a yearlong collaboration with Erasmus University Medical Center of Rotterdam, Netherlands, focused on improving access to standardized care methodologies for healthcare and research professionals worldwide.

The NIHSS international program is a collaborative initiative by government entities and transnational private and scholastic organizations dedicated to promoting better care for stroke patients. The NIHSS is one of a growing number of maturing international collaborations that standardize programs for healthcare and clinical research professionals in order to improve on inter-professional reliability (IPR) across trial projects and across borders. The Dutch NIHSS will be distributed by healthcare organizations, clinical trial sponsors, clinical research organizations and regulatory agencies to Dutch-speaking healthcare and clinical research professionals throughout the world.

Organizations also will be able share verifiable certifications electronically across employees, sponsors and clinical trials via HCP’s BlueCloud™ networks in real time. This will help eliminate redundancies, minimize issues with regulatory compliance requirements and reduce time, resource and financial burdens for those organizations by providing real-time accountability in healthcare and clinical research.

Diederik WJ Dippel, MD PhD at Erasmus MC University Medical Center, welcomed the collaboration with HCP, saying, "The NIHSS is used widely in the Netherlands’ healthcare and for clinical research. We cherish our collaborative relationship with HCP as we project that this standardized program will improve the care and clinical outcomes of our stroke patients.”

“Our goal as healthcare and clinical research professionals is to ultimately improve outcomes as all healthcare providers learn to diagnose patients the same way – in a standardized fashion and across the globe,” said Patrick Lyden, MD, FAAN, FAHA, Chairman, Department of Neurology Carmen and Louis Warschaw Chair in Neurology Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

“Our real time collaborative approach has proven to eliminate expensive redundancies for healthcare professionals and at the investigator site level,” said HCP president Al O. Pacino. “This is now saving the healthcare and clinical research industry stakeholders millions as regulatory agencies require increasing proof of competency and documentation of inter-professional reliability (IPR).

The Joint Task Force for Harmonized Clinical Research Competency (JTF) is evaluating a global survey of clinical research competencies which will define parameters for IPR. These competencies will help to guide academic program standards, training and role competencies. In collaboration with the Consortium of Academic Programs in Clinical Research (CoAPCR) plans are underway to develop a BlueCloud-based ePortfolio structure that will enable clinical research students, professionals and investigators to illustrate competencies by the JTF Competency Framework domains” Carolynn Thomas Jones, DNP, MSPH, RN, President CoAPCR.

As collaborative momentum builds across the world, HCP continues to work closely with global industry leaders – including major universities, governments, private and not-for-profit organizations – that believe all industry stakeholders have ultimate responsibility to patients and subjects alike, and that accountable healthcare and accountable research is the ultimate professional responsibility.
