Ian C. Ballon, Intellectual Property and Internet/Mobile Litigation, and Heath Briggs, Intellectual Property & Technology, shareholders at international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will speak at the 2015 Rocky Mountain IP & Tech Law Institute taking place May 28-29, 2015 in Westminster.
According to the Colorado Bar Association’s website, the institute will provide a real world guide on the new realities of protecting innovation, the rise of data security and privacy breaches and liability, and how social media and Big Data are affecting the way intellectual property law is practiced. Topics discussed will include updates in patent, trademark, copyright, and licensing law, as well as breakout sessions on major case decisions and intellectual property issues. Ballon will speak May 28 from 11:10 a.m.–noon MT on the topic, “2015 Copyright Update: Everything You Need to Know About the Last Year.” Briggs will speak May 28 from 2:30–3:20 p.m. MT on the topic, “Statistical Analysis of Examiners’ Work.”
Ballon represents clients in IP, technology and Internet-, cloud- and mobile-related litigation, including copyright, DMCA, CDA, trademark, trade secret, and right of publicity cases and the defense of data privacy, security breach, behavioral advertising, and TCPA class action suits. He also was the 2010 recipient of the State Bar of California’s Vanguard Award for outstanding legal professionals who are spearheading new developments in the world of intellectual property. Ballon also serves as executive director of Stanford Law School’s Center for e-Commerce, which hosts Stanford’s Annual e-Commerce Best Practices Conference.
Briggs is a chemical engineer, a registered patent attorney, and has more than 10 years of patent prosecution experience. He has significant patent prosecution experience in the chemical area, especially in the areas of material science (e.g., metallurgy) and organic chemistry, and he represents several Fortune 500 companies in this area, managing their worldwide patent portfolios. Briggs also has significant experience in the software and Internet fields. He has obtained dozens of U.S. patents for his clients, and has worked with foreign counsel in China, France, Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Russia, and the United Kingdom, among others, to obtain foreign patents for his clients.
