Full Steam Ahead Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad and Museum Announces Opening Weekend
Elbe, Washington (PRWEB) May 28, 2015 -- May 30 marks opening weekend, kicking off a season of weekly steam train excursions. This year is the 35th consecutive season in which steam engines nearly a century old are fired up to carry visitors through the forest and foothills south of Mount Rainier National Park. “Elbe offers such a unique small town atmosphere,” said Meilee Anderson, Sales and Marketing Director for the railroad. “You just don’t see towns like this anymore. Elbe has the second smallest, second oldest church in the U.S. It’s also home to the Hobo Inn, a roadside motel offering lodging in converted cabooses, including a train car themed diner. There’s even a pizzeria serving from a train car, and of course our depot continues the theme. With Alder Lake nearby, and a host of trails, the area offers all kinds of outdoor recreational opportunities for families and visitors of all ages. Best of all, it’s all just a few miles from the entrance to the National Park. Elbe makes a great weekend getaway that’s definitely worth the drive. About Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad (MRSR)
MRSR is a steam-powered heritage railroad operating in Washington State between the towns of Elbe and Mineral. MRSR is a non-profit organization and the longest continuously operating steam train railroad in the Pacific Northwest. Approximately 45,000 passengers travel the forest and foothills south of Mt. Rainier annually in passenger cars pulled by restored locomotives. The majority of the excursions are operated and supported by dedicated volunteers.
