Hexagon Geospatial Supports Urban Change Detection Programs in New Mexico
Norcross, GA (PRWEB) May 28, 2015 -- Hexagon Geospatial is pleased to announce that Bohannan Huston, Inc. (BHI), a provider of engineering, spatial data and mapping services, is using Hexagon Geospatial solutions to generate and analyze thousands of point clouds for urban change assessments in Bernalillo County, New Mexico.
From 2012 to 2014, the BHI Spatial Data Division implemented a countywide approach to generating pixel-resolution point clouds from digital stereo aerial imagery. Collected by a variety of different digital aerial camera systems, BHI used ImageStation ISAE-Extended to extract point clouds ranging between 80 and 150 million points per stereo model. Thousands of these were then assembled into seamless Digital Surface Models (DSM) using open source technologies.
By modeling change detection techniques, BHI was able to vectorize areas of change, which were then integrated into Hexagon Geospatial’s GeoMedia platform. From there the vector change data supported and guided analysts who were collecting new buildings in the 2014 image base with a data driven, targeted, and high-fidelity geospatial data resource.
BHI uses a number of Hexagon Geospatial’s solutions for supporting its spatial data services, which are provided to a number of public sector agencies, as well as research institutions, developers and geospatial data users.
“Hexagon’s large portfolio of software and solutions and their investment in geospatial technologies are a strategic advantage for our company,” said Dennis Sandin, Digital Mapping Principal and Senior Vice President, BHI. “We appreciate their investment in our success as we innovate within our geospatial and data-driven operational approaches.”
BHI is planning future projects that explore similar integrations between SGM and LiDAR data. In addition, Robert S. Dzur, Senior Vice President, BHI will be presenting at HxGN LIVE 2015 in a session titled, “Semi-Global Matching (SGM) for Wide-Area Urban Change Detection and Building Update Collection.”
