New Study Finds Close Link Between Crocidolite Asbestos and Deadly Mesothelioma, According to Surviving Mesothelioma
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) May 30, 2015 -- The results of a 40+ year study in Poland suggest that crocidolite asbestos has a high potential to cause mesothelioma, regardless of the volume of exposure. Read the full story now on the Surviving Mesothelioma website.
The study conducted by the Nofera Institute of Occupational Medicine in Lodz, Poland found that, among the 138 cases of mesothelioma that occurred among asbestos workers between 1970 and 2012, all of them happened at plants that had, at some time, processed crocidolite.
“The observation confirms the relationship between exposure to crocidolite and occurrence of mesothelioma, regardless of the manufactured products,” says lead author Neonila Szeszenia-Dabrowska.
The study, published in the Polish medical journal Medycyna Pracy, notes that, of the approximately 2 million tons of asbestos processed in the country during that period, only about 7.5% of it was crocidolite.
“This is just another reminder of the deadly legacy of asbestos and its threat to the health and safety of workers everywhere,” says Alex Strauss, Managing Editor of Surviving Mesothelioma. “Even after many countries have instituted asbestos bans, tens of thousands continue to contract mesothelioma around the world.”
