Metro Detroit Family Restaurant Brings Coney Island Favorites, Greek Specialties to Grand Rapids; Creates More Than 50 Jobs
Grand Rapids, Michigan (PRWEB) June 02, 2015 -- After more than four decades as Metro Detroit’s one-stop shop for high quality Coney dogs and Greek specialties, Leo’s Coney Island is expanding west with the opening of its first Grand Rapids location at 6080 28th Street (Cascade Crossings) in Cascade. Following the demand of visiting customers and hop-ing to ride the recent retail development wave sweeping West Michigan, the first Leo’s location is slated to open late July 2015. More than 50 jobs will be created to handle various aspects of store operation, from servers and cooks to management. Other tenants in Cascade Crossings are Wendy’s, Renewal Skin Spa, Mathnasium, Hair Masters and Panera Bread.
“Grand Rapids has one of the best economies in Michigan and across the nation,” explained Bill Krall, owner/operator of Leo’s Coney Island. “Not only did we see this as an opportunity to tap into a booming market but also the chance to give a new community a dining option it currently doesn’t have.”
The first Leo’s Coney Island was established in 1972 by brother duo Peter and Leo Stassinopoulos, both immigrants from Greece, in Southfield, Michigan. With success attributed to hard work and personal touches added to the Coney Island business, their addition of family recipes quickly became the back-bone of business development. By 1982, a third location was opened in Farmington and the brothers had built a strong reputation – one worthy of the common identifier Leo’s Coney Island. Over the past 40 years, the restaurant has worked to evolve its menu offerings from Coney Island basics to include Greek specialties, breakfast and a kid’s menu. From day one, the Leo’s formula has not strayed from serving the highest quality products and proving the greatest service to customers.
“Our greatest goal is to become a part of the community. At every store we have, we’ve taken on the role of local family restaurant,” continued Krall. “Getting to know our people is a big deal for us. As a business that places a large emphasis on giving back to the community, it personalizes every opportuni-ty for us to invest in the lives of those who have helped sustain ours.”
While expansion is currently focused on the general Grand Rapids area, Krall hopes to have locations scattered throughout West Michigan’s major corridors in the near future. In selecting the perfect location – one with high visibility and large traffic counts – Krall utilized the commercial real estate expertise of Adam Goodman, vice president of Mid America Real Estate Group (Leo’s representation) and Mark Ansara and Mike Murray, retail team members for Colliers International | West Michigan (landlord rep-resentation). The fast service restaurant presently has more than 50 locations scattered throughout the Metro Detroit area.
