“It can no longer be Republican against Democrat, citizens against police, White versus Black, rich versus poor. We must achieve the original vision of our country – to be a place where all people can be free to pursue life, liberty and happiness."
Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) May 30, 2015
Millionaire and philanthropist Willie Wilson, who sparked national attention earlier this year by winning more than 10 percent of the vote in his historic campaign for mayor of Chicago, is expected to announce on Monday that he will compete for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States in 2016.
“This has not been an easy decision for me,” says Wilson. “But I know that it is the right decision.”
Wilson announced earlier in the month that he had launched an exploratory committee that would ultimately advise him on what he should do. Wilson has made it clear that if he decides to get into the ever-growing field of presidential hopefuls, that he would be “a people’s candidate.”
The colorful entrepreneur whose rags-to-riches story became the hallmark of his Chicago candidacy, says, “The citizens of America want a national agenda that focuses on their needs and improves their lives.”
Wilson is also known for his Emmy Award-winning performance on his Gospel television show Singsation!, and for giving millions of dollars to struggling churches every year. A Louisiana native who often cites having to pick cotton as a young boy and not receiving an education beyond the seventh grade, Wilson now sits at the helm of a $60 million medical supplies company.
