The On It Foundation, ODTUG Team Up to Provide Public STEM Event for Youth During Kscope15 Conference
(PRWEB) June 03, 2015 -- The On It Foundation and Oracle Development Tools User Group (ODTUG) are partnering to launch a free, hands-on Community Service Day event during Kscope15, ODTUG's annual conference to be held this year at Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood. Community Service Day, sponsored by Oracle Technology Network (OTN), kicks off the conference on June 20, 2015, at the Hollywood Beach Culture & Community Center by giving conference attendees the opportunity to volunteer while enriching the lives of local kids. ODTUG selected The On It Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses on providing technology access to disadvantaged children, as the charitable partner. Through the use of software programs, media, and film, the groups will join forces to introduce youths ages 6-18 to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) projects. ODTUG volunteers will guide a minimum of 150 students during the activities.
“We are very honored to partner with ODTUG on this awesome event,” said Calvetta Phair, Founder and President of The On It Foundation. “Our organization has partnered with professional sports events and corporate employee engagements by providing out-of-the-box tech symposiums. Partnering with ODTUG allows us to truly launch one of the best community events ever by engaging tech-savvy Oracle volunteers with kids interested in learning innovative technology programs and software.”
“Community Service Day is one of the cornerstones of ODTUG’s Kscope conference,” said Monty Latiolais, president of the ODTUG Board of Directors.“We pride ourselves on giving back to the communities we visit, and this year we are thrilled to be working on STEM initiatives.”
ODTUG’s Community Service Day started in 2008 as an outlet for those seeking a service component to complement their Kscope conference experience. During that first initiative, more than 80 volunteers arrived a day early to help renovate an elementary school previously damaged by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Other past Community Service Day events have benefited Big Sur Land Trust in Monterey, California; & Girls Clubs of San Antonio, Texas; and Nature Consortium in Seattle.
